Job - related idioms

To bring home the bacon: To earn a living for the family

A dead end job: A job that has no chance of promotion or advancement

To be fired / To get the sack:To be dismissed from your job

Jack / Jill of all trades (master / mistress of none): A person that is competent with many skills but is not outstanding in any particular one.

To work your fingers to the bone: To work really hard

Work for peanuts: Not be paid enough or not to be paid at all.

A golden handshake: To receive a large payment on leaving a company.

Rat race: A way of life in which people compete with each other.

Hit glass ceiling: a barrier limiting the success of certain people.
